Chad Ochocinco Changing His Name Back to Chad Johnson
Mercurial wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is changing his name from the Spanish word for 8 5, his football jersey number, back to Johnson, he confirmed on Twitter.
While insiders told TMZ.com the change was so that his soon-to-be wife Evelyn Lozada wouldn’t have to take a fake name, he had a variety of more creative reasons for his more than 3.2 million Twitter followers.
“There’s a warrant out for OchoCinco so I’m changing it to avoid jail time,” he quipped to one follower.

He advised another fan who complained he had “bout 5 @ochocinco jerseys signed sitting on the wall” to “take them down. I’ll be Johnson on July 4.”
The New England wide receiver first announced he was switching his name back late last month in an appearance on ESPN’s “NFL Live” show.
“I don’t have a choice right now,” he said. “I’ve done enough with the Ocho thing.”
The football player currently known as Ochocinco first began referring to himself as Ochocinco in 2006 and changed it officially in 2008, in order to wear it on his uniform.
