Couple Charged With Murder For Killing Daughter’s Pimp

Barry Gilton and his longtime girlfriend, Lupe Mercado are accused with murder in the slaying of Calvin Sneed near Candlestick Park. The 22-year-old Sneed, identified as a Compton gang member, was shot once with a .40-caliber handgun while driving. Gilton being the gunman.

Their attorneys said the couple have been together since childhood and have three other children. The oldest daughter “disappeared some time ago” and was discovered to be engaged in prostitution, with Sneed as her pimp. They tried to get her back but failed.

Gilton faces life without parole and Mercado could face 25 years to life in prison if convicted.
